Do you think that social media has the potential to bring about real social change?

According to Malcom Gladwell, a well-known author in the area of social media, social media are built around weak ties and real social change can never come from loose networks of people that do not know each other. Actually, I am not quite agree with that. Social media has already had a big change in our real world network. There are some examples:

·         On the social media, such as facebook, renren , we can know a lot of friends which really enlarge our real world network. And even some people meet their right one on the social media. It was unbelievable some years ago.

·         For the business. Our traditional way to do the business is that we have customers in the mall, and we talk about the price and then make a deal. But now, we can get our customers on the social media. And we can sell our goods without meeting the customers. It is really a big change in our business network.

·         Some people like me live in another country which is far away from my family. In the past, we will not see my family for a long time, if I am not flying back to China. My parents will miss me very much. But now, I can talk with my family every day on MSN, we share my life with them in my space. The social media bring me and my family more closer no matter where you are.

I really think we are not necessary to talk about this topic. Because it has already happened. We can feel that in our real life. And I believe that this change will become more obviously.
