According to Malcom Gladwell, a well-known
author in the area of social media, social media are built around weak ties and
real social change can never come from loose networks of people that do not
know each other. Actually, I am not quite agree with that. Social media has
already had a big change in our real world network. There are some examples:
·
On the social media, such as
facebook, renren , we can know a lot of friends which really enlarge our real world
network. And even some people meet their right one on the social media. It was
unbelievable some years ago.
·
For the business. Our traditional
way to do the business is that we have customers in the mall, and we talk about
the price and then make a deal. But now, we can get our customers on the social
media. And we can sell our goods without meeting the customers. It is really a
big change in our business network.
·
Some people like me live in
another country which is far away from my family. In the past, we will not see
my family for a long time, if I am not flying back to China. My parents will
miss me very much. But now, I can talk with my family every day on MSN, we
share my life with them in my space. The social media bring me and my family
more closer no matter where you are.
I really think
we are not necessary to talk about this topic. Because it has already happened.
We can feel that in our real life. And I believe that this change will become
more obviously.
This is very true , most of my family members live in the USA and i am still able to connect with them through Skype and Facebook which makes it feel as though they are living with me to a certain extent.
ReplyDeleteI agree, most of my family members live in other countrys, and skype and facebook have made it easier to communicate with them, especially with skype and the video chat function, it makes it easier to see the person you are talking to, instead of buying a plane ticket to visit when you dont have the time to do so. And thanks to the those functions, its alot easier to keep in touch with relative on the go.
ReplyDeleteI also agree with you about Malcom Gladwell. His statement about real social change not being able to occur based on loose networks of people who don't know each other well sounds pretty false in the world we live in. People back in the day did not have so many resources available to them and were not able to freely communicate with other people around the world. Now we have Facebook posts and group that have people connecting with others that they may have never known. The way we communicate in today's world is drastically different from that of our parents.
ReplyDeletei agree, this also makes it easier for lond distance relationships with personal, family, and friends relatioships. no matter what the distance is
